A contactor is an electrically controlled switch used for switching an electrical power circuit, similar to a relay except with higher current ratings. Lighting contactors are specifically designed to handle the demanding inrush currents of fluorescent and other lamp applications. Available in 2 to 12 pole configurations, these contactors can be electrically held or mechanically held in the “on” state.
